Sirens, ladders and BBQ fun

The kids and I got to go with Aunt Melanie (Big Mister's sister) today to a Fire Station in Phoenix. She is a member of the City's Executive Council through work where they plan events, fund raisers, etc. One of the Fire Department Battalion Chiefs is also on the Executive Council and he invited the other Council members and their guests to the Fire Station.

The kids got up close and personal fire fighter attention and they enjoyed every minute of it. They walked through an ambulance, a fire truck and toured the station. They saw the ladder go up and down on the huge ladder truck, too. They really enjoyed spraying water out of the fire hose.

While we were there the station received an emergency call so we all got to see the fire fighters in action as they hurried to leave...sirens and all.

They served a yummy Barbecue with fun treats for the kids.

After lunch they did some basic fire safety training. Little Miss was picked to put on the fire fighter suit and lead the other kids (while carrying a fire hose) down and under, crawling to save a stuffed teddy bear. Once the boots and coat were on she could not even walk. The fire fighter that was helping had to just push her along the floor. We all got a pretty good laugh!
It was a fun day!
