Today, for some Spring Break fun we boarded the Dolly Steamboat and took a cruise around Canyon Lake. The weather was perfect and the cruise was nice, relaxing and fun for the kids.
We sat on the top level at the very left as you look at this picture.
The binocular machine was fun!
Here we are. All ready to go!
The boat has tables to sit around so you can enjoy snacks as you cruise along. They have a small snack bar and the kids got popcorn, Doritos and Cheetos! Doesn’t that sound healthy? We still have some left because Big Mister and I abstained. I brought a bag of sliced cucumbers to snack on, yum! Ha Ha. (We’re doing good so far).
Little Mister sat at the end of the boat looking out for most of the cruise. He liked watching the big white wheel turn as the boat cruised along.
Little Miss stayed right close to her Daddy. She was just a bit more timid than Little Mister!
We saw a couple of bald eagles. There was narration on the cruise and they stated they had not seen bald eagles nesting in this area for 15 years. They were thrilled to spot them a few weeks ago. Cool!
And the bald eagle took flight.
We saw lots and lots of beautiful scenery,
and bat caves, too. They said that the bats come out many times during their dinner cruises.
We saw petrified wood in the side of the rocks,
and several sightings of Desert Big Horn sheep.
We saw a cool waterfall. This was one of the only ones we saw that actually had some water falling.
On the way home we stopped at a little side of the road hole in the wall gift shop. It was a dive! But we took a couple of fun pictures anyway. Notice how Little Miss would not step another foot closer to the “ghost”.
Aw shucks! We didn’t see any gold.
I just had to include this picture of Little Mister enjoying his snacks. He’d run to the table, grab a handful and stuff it in his mouth, then go back to his position at the end of the boat.
We wish there were more days like this that we could spend together. I guess we will take what we can get and make great what time we do get. (Did that make sense?)
What a fantastic start to our week of Spring Break. We loved it.
Too bad Daddy is busy for the rest of the week with the Scout Rendezvous :(
Actually, he loves scouting and being with the boys so we’ll let him go and live out his mountain man desires and adventures.
